Alexander the Great

When I heard that the exhibition “Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty” started May 5 2011 in the Metropolitan Museum of Art I was so happy that I was still in New York to go and see it.

Together with Mini-me this for me was the perfect activity for Mothersday.

The exhibition is set up beautifully and does justice to the truly great work Alexander McQueen created. As you know he took his own life last year and during the visit, which was very crowded, I heard several women say “what a shame, he was such a talent, so sad to take your own life..”

Clearly Alexander McQueen was fascinated by death; his designs often had a dark side and his remarks also showed that Alexander was fascinated by death..he said the following about it: “it is important to look at death because it is a part of life. It is a sad thing, melancholic but romantic at the same time. It is the end of a cycle…everything has to end. The cycle of life is positive because it gives room for new things

Well, I feel very sorry he is no longer amongst us to create great new things. Without any doubt I believe Alexander McQueen was one of the greatest designer of our time. He was innovative, not afraid to experiment with different kind of materials like leather, feather, real flowers, shells and metallic. Also had a great hand for sharp forms which made a woman look more powerful…

His designs are timeless and there for us to always enjoy..
